Biography

Swedish conductor Elin Gripstrand currently holds the position as the first conductor in the professional talent program at Folkoperan in Stockholm. During the season 26/27 she will conduct performances and also take part in workshops. 

Born in Sweden in 2000, the young conductor recently completed her studies in orchestral conducting and classical vocals at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, Norway, under the guidance of prof. Ole Kristian Ruud, Rolf Gupta & Johannes Gustavsson. Parts of her studies were completed at Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. 

She has also taken part in masterclasses with renowned conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Nicolás Pasquet, Edward Gardner, Norbert Baxa, Henrik Schaefer, Catherine Winnes and Tabita Berglund.

Elin has a broad repertoire rooted in the symphonic music, spanning to opera, baroque and military music. She has also worked a lot with contemporary music and has conducted around 20 world premiers.

In the last few years, Elin has conducted concerts with various European orchestras such as Folkoperan orchestra, University orchestra of Mozarteum, Orkester Moderna musica, Linköping symphony orchestra, Ensemble Lime, Mariners Musikkår, Göteborg Wind Orchestra/Flygvapnets musikkår, Östgöta symphonic band, Ensemble Kammerklang, Hærens musikkorps and Forsvarets Stabsmusikkorps. 

Her operatic debuts has taken place in the Czech Republic with sold out performances of Verdi’s Nabucco at the J.K Tyla Theatre and Bizet’s Carmen at the North Bohemian Theatre of Opera and Ballet.

Elin is also very driven as a soprano and completed her studies in classical vocals at the Norwegian Academy of Music with prof. Mona Julsrud. She has a very deep interest in the connection between the voice and the symphonic music of especially the romantic period. She is working continuously to discover the rubato traditions of the same era and how to bring them into the interpretation and sound world of the symphonic music of the same composers.
